Below are some answers to frequently asked questions. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Cerjak. or Ms. Rudisel Emails: HYPERLINK "mailto:janet.cerjak@dvusd.org" janet.cerjak@dvusd.org HYPERLINK "mailto:christy.rudisel@dvusd.org" christy.rudisel@dvusd.org Our performance will be April 5th and 6th, 2019. (Write this down or put it in your phone) We expect you to show good character and keep up with your grades. THAT IS MOST IMPORTANT! We do reserve the right to discontinue your time with the Drama Club if you cannot abide by the expectations below. Please initial _______________ Student initial______________ Do we have to come to every practice? If your crew is scheduled to be at practice, you are expected to be there. For the first few MONTHS of tech crew, the only tech we need will be painters and the sound person. We will need the other tech crew once we get on stage. We will put together a schedule for each month. If you are unable to attend each practice for your crew, you may want to reconsider joining. Every tech depends on every other tech doing his/her job. If you miss too many practices your job could be given to someone else. If you are planning to join baseball or softball, you will not be able to join drama. There are too many conflicting dates that are crucial to both activities. We have a 3 strike policy for unexcused absences. Please initial_______________ Student initial______________ **GRADES AND GRIT CARDS** We will follow a new procedure beginning this year. We will do grade and GRIT card checks. Being a part of this club is a privilege and a representation of us. We expect you to show good character at all times, be respectful to staff and each other and keep your grades up. If you do not follow these guidelines, we have the right to give your job to someone who does. Please initial ________________ Student initial________________ What will we do during rehearsal/ practice? To start with, if you are paint crew, you will create the sets. Once this is done, we can move on to staging scenes and moving props/sets. Eventually you will run through the show. Beginning in November, practice will be from 3:45-6:00pm (please make note of this and have your parents ready to pick you up at 6:00pm~(Late parents CAN receive a charge) every Wednesday and Friday. There are days we may run a little bit over. Please have your parents wait in the parking lot. Again, parents should be here and ready to pick you up at 6. You should not be calling them at six to pick you up. Please initial_______________ Student initial_____________ What does Show Week look like? Show week dates are from April 1- April 6 (write this down or put it in your phone). Please try to schedule appointments on a different week. Show week is both the most fun and most work a child in the Drama program can have. It begins after school as students gather in the MPR to have a snack and start homework. We have rehearsal about 4 and continue until about 6. We then break for supper- which our parents head (usually we get pizza, pasta, subs, and chicken strips). Students then finish homework. Practice continues until about 10:00 pm. Please understand that we usually end then but we have run over in the past. We do our best to stay on schedule. Please consider this carefully. If you feel your child is not ready for this, consider waiting a year. Students must be there- especially on show week- in order for everyone to perform. This is such an important week for tech! We depend on each other to create an awesome program! Please initial_______________ Student initial______________ Tech Crew and Staff show As you may know, the staff perform the musical to raise money for the drama program. If you are on prop crew, lights, sound, and curtain you are expected to be a part of staff show week. The dates are February 4- February 8. Please do not schedule appointments for this week. We practice until about 9 pm. The reason this is such an important time for these particular crews is that the students learn how to do the scene changes, and the particulars of lights and sound. If your child wishes to apply for prop or lights or sound consider this commitment. Please initial_______________ Student initial______________ What can parents do to help? We will have a parent meeting December 5th @ 5:30pm (please put this date in your phone) to discuss any questions that you may have. At that time, if you have any special talents or skills, you may want to sign up to help. Some of the areas we will need volunteers for are: getting props together, costumes, helping with the teacher show (dessert, programs and tickets), organizing the teacher show (desserts), hair and make-up (shows), concessions, picking up dinners for show week, and simply donating snacks and water for show week (it gets hot back stage) or donating anything to the drama program. Can parents go back stage during a show? NO. (Unless you are helping with hair, make-up and costumes) If you want to wish your child luck, please do it before the show when you drop them off. Parents and siblings are not allowed back stage (not where the students sit or in the wings behind the curtain) or in the dressing room at any time. There are many things happening before a show and we do not need any added things happening. If you are helping with make up or hair, please make arrangements for your younger children. What is Tech Crew? The tech crew is the heart of any production. These are the people actors rely on to get props in the right spots, move scenes, handle the curtain, manage backstage, run the sound, create scenery and a million other things. They are so important that a production could not happen without them. There are a limited number of spots open for crew. Your correctly completed forms need to be turned in promptly. Can I have my cell phone? During rehearsals and shows there will be a cell phone collection box that will be kept with the directors. NO STUDENT MAY HAVE A CELL PHONE WHILE PRACTICING OR PERFORMING. Those caught will be warned and then asked to leave (resulting in missing a practice/show). We understand that, especially during show week, the students are with us for many hours. Students are allowed to use their cell phone during breaks so if you leave a message, they will see it then. During show week, we will allow frequent checks of phones for messages. Please initial_______________ Student initial______________ Who can come to rehearsal? Just those in the show can be at rehearsals. No siblings, no friends, no parents unless you are a volunteer. Applying for a Tech position THERE IS A LIMITED NUMBER OF TECH BEING ACCEPTED. Tech packs are due next Wednesday, October 31. You may turn it in early TO MRS. RUDISEL/HUNTER. At that time you will receive an application. Applications are due November 6 to Mrs. Rudisel. Tech positions will be posted in Mrs. Rudisels window on November 9. Do not ask her ahead of time if you made a crew or what crew you are in. Please note that this form is on my website in case you need to review it for dates or policies. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please fill out the next pages Please list ALL conflicts that you will have (other than emergency situations) during the months of practice. Be specific with times and dates if possible. Practice will be Wednesdays and Fridays beginning November 14th. Review show dates for staff and students. MondaysTuesdaysWednesdaysThursdaysFridays _______ YES! I will be trying out for basketball (This could determine a position given) Again, think about the commitment to this show. If you feel you cannot give 100% to the drama club, please reconsider. We really do our best to work with the coaches, but they must work with us. SHOW WEEKS ARE OURS. NO EXCEPTIONS EVEN IF A TEAM IS IN A PLAYOFF. If you DO NOT check this box and then make a team, your part MAY be given to another techie. Please initial_______________ Student initial______________ COST for drama program: (NON-REFUNDABLE) $75 for Tech Crew Please initial_______________ Student initial______________ All payments need to be received after positions are posted within a week. Permission slips must be returned for you to apply for tech. What does the money go towards? Many things. Purchasing the rights to the performance and the script is the biggest cost for the program. Most of the money goes towards that. Other money will go towards props, set design and supplies and things of that nature. Your child will be asked for possible donations for snacks, dinners, etc when we are nearing the show date. Depending on our costume situation, you may be asked to get some items you may need for a given scene. We will be ordering T-shirts for our club. ALL tech crew will be required to order a shirt (This is included in the cost to join for TECH CREW only). We will have this information at the parent meeting on December 5th. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Positions: paint crew, lights and sound crew, prop and curtain crew, audience crew, courtesy crew (this last one assists directors and crew heads at any job that needs to be done) I have read and understand this full handout. My child has permission to apply to be involved in the musical. I understand that applying does not guarantee a position.
